L.E.A.P. Program (Learning Enhancement and Achievement Program)Note: This program runs in the summer and afternoons. Many parents of children and adults with disabilities work each day and require extended care for their child or adult after the educational day ends. UCPWA has operated an afternoon and summer program since the mid 1980’s to help alleviate the problem of after school and extended-day care of children and adults with disabilities. The youth and adult program is available for persons with disabilities requiring extended care. Enrollment in the children’s program is open to any child (with or without disabilities) age 3-12. Children enrolled in the program are brought to the UCPWA Center by the county and city school system buses. Parents are responsible for picking up their child at the end of each day. The schedule involves group activities, organized one-on-one activities when volunteer services are available, leisure activities and snack time. The service operates Monday - Friday, 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Full-day services are also provided on some days that the school system is not in operation. Camp Sunshine a summer extended-day service for children, is provided in collaboration with the Charles P. Sprayberry Regional Education Center located on Rice Mine Road in Northport, Alabama. |
